Three Weeks Old!
I really can't believe it. Is he really three weeks old already? Time is going too fast for my liking right now.
This has been a successful yet trying week in the Johnson household! Steven is finally a full-time booby baby. Good-bye 3 am bottle washing/pumping! I'm loving the ease of breastfeeding full time - I even fed him for the first time in the car today (after a traumatic dr. appt my boy needed some comforting from his mama). Good news is he has gained 13 oz. since last week - now weighing in at 9lb 4 oz. This has truly made me so happy after all the trouble with breastfeeding and him losing a bit of weight the beginning of last week. The trying part of this week has been that my boy is especially congested for some reason. We've had to keep busy with steamy bathrooms and bulb suctioning to get his nose clear so he doesn't gag on all the nasty stuff and spit up the good food he's getting down. He also has some mild acid reflux issues as well which are contributing factors. Top all of this with Nathan being back to the "floor schedule" of the Legislative Session and it is very tired mama and very tired papa at the end of the day.
Steven is changing more everyday. His facial expressions are so adorable. I'm seeing more and more of Nathan in the looks he makes. This morning they were both sleeping and had the same exact expression on their faces - so cute!
I was informed by my husband earlier this week that I'm supposed to have been doing "tummy time" with Steven on the floor 30 min. every day since he came home. Must have missed that part of the discharge video (sleeping I imagine) at the hospital. Am I a bad mama for it? I highly doubt that Steven's skills will be hindered due to missing 2 weeks of tummy time, but I did start it this week. It was neat to see how he is actually beginning to focus on things other than my face (the toy I was distracting him with while on the floor).
I'm looking forward to a restful day for myself tomorrow since my mom and aunt Trina (all the way from MN) will be down for the day/night. That means that mommy only need hold Steven to feed him or when she wants to - thus naps (and maybe some things getting done around the house). On Saturday morning I'll leave to go up to Seattle for a big friend shower that my dear friend Amy is throwing for me and then Sunday will be with the Johnson side of the family for Anna's birthday. It will be our first weekend away from home and I'm sure we will be ready to come home after it!
Here's some pictures of tummy time as well as our 3 week pictures:

He is so cute, seriously. And you are doing a great job with him! What a good little mommy. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry, most people don't start tummy time until the cord falls off or a few weeks in, so he's right on schedule. The *reason* we do tummy time at all is due to the "back to sleep" campaign. Sleeping on the back lessens the chance of SIDS, but an unintended side effect was that babies were taking too long to roll and gain head control because they never spent time on their tummies. :) You're doing great!
