Chocolate and my first Devil's Food Cake

Wednesday was Nathan's birthday and tonight we are having some friends over to celebrate. In honor of this occasion I have in the oven at this very moment what I hope will be the most delicious Devil's Food Cake I have ever tasted. If the batter is any indication it will be! I never used to be much of a fan of chocolate. Nathan and I would go out for ice cream and I would order some berries and cream concoction and he would get something loaded with chocolate, peanutbutter, and the like. Unfortunately, this meant we could rarely agree on sharing (oh darn, must I get my own???)...one of us would have to settle. Not anymore. Since having Steven, I have craved all things chocolate and rich and decadent. They say pregnancy will do that - something you disliked before will be something you greatly enjoy after. In my case - it's the best thing that happened...except maybe for my waistline.
Combined with this new love of chocolate is my renewed love of baking. Somewhere around Christmas I burned myself out with cookies and it took a while to get back in the groove (I mean, I did have a new baby shortly thereafter as well...but that's no excuse). I have been pouring over my cookbooks in search of the most enticing cake or the best pie or the tastiest cookies. This is dangerous ground! My mother recently shared the recipes of renowned pastry chef, David Lebovitz with me. He is the creator of the Devil's Food cake recipe I am trying this morning. Hopefully, it will be worthy of pictures that I can post later for your viewing (and drooling) pleasure!

  1. I'm so glad to see that you blog! And I can't wait to try out this cake recipe. I LOVE to bake but my absolute favorite thing to bake is cake and cupcakes!

I also love your music selection. I am a huge fan of jazz music.

  2. The cake was absolutely delicious! The ganache got a bit challenging as it hardened before I was done frosting, but as long as you are quick about it (I was being too putsy) it shouldn't be a problem. I would also 1 1/2 the ganache so you have enough for the whole cake. Got a bit thin in spots towards the end.
Will definitely be making this cake again!
