Beanlet So Far...
I have been sorely neglecting my blog, as well as sorely neglecting my documenting of this pregnancy. Life with an active toddler will do that I suppose.
This post is completely dedicated to Beanlet and how he/she is coming along thus far.
My pregnancy has been amazing so far - nothing to complain of in the least. I attribute any exhaustion or discomfort I have to chasing/carrying around a 15 month old who has decided walking isn't his thing yet. I never did have much nausea or food aversions for the first trimester - I was very blessed by this. I found what they say about your body remembering how to do things to be true though - I was digging out maternity clothes by week 13. I didn't have to put my first maternity piece on until about 20 weeks with Steven. Yikes!
The first 15 weeks or so I didn't gain a pound. I think that has everything to do with my still nursing Steven for a good portion of that time...my body was working hard for three! After I weaned Steven, and after the midwife said, "You need to put some weight on" I promptly put on a few pounds. I have as of my last appointment at 19 weeks, gained 6 lbs total. I'm sure that number has gone up in the last 4 weeks as my belly has seriously made an appearance and I've been feeding my one craving thus far - baked goods. Could I pick anything more fattening? I suppose so, but still, a bunch of scones, muffins and cookies loaded with butter and sugar and everything delicious certainly sped up my weight gain process. Hopefully it will all melt off as soon as Beanlet arrives...right?? Okay, maybe that's wishful thinking. At least I'll have a whole 10 months before swimsuit season again to work on getting rid of the results of my sweet tooth.
I hit 23 weeks yesterday, and it is so hard to believe that I am more than halfway through. I feel like before I know it I will be holding my new mr or miss in my arms and we will be in the heat of summer! I have been desperately trying to capture this pregnancy on camera as much as I did my pregnancy with Steven. So far, I am right on track and maybe even ahead with pictures if you count the extra ultrasound photos we've been able to get. Here is a sampling thus far:
From the ultrasound:
I will be having another ultrasound in May sometime (I keep forgetting to schedule that...note to self). They are wanting to make sure that the placenta is moving up like it is supposed to... which is apparently a "normal finding" so nothing to worry about at this point. Keep us in your prayers that everything is where it should be when we go back! I am excited for more pictures of Beanlet! The only difficult thing about this ultrasound that I foresee is having to muster the will to not find out who Beanlet is!
I've been having nothing but problems since we switched to Group Health. Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook have seen my rants. The long and short of it is, they have not been very good at relaying important information to me directly (like the fact that I needed another ultrasound). After trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and continually being disappointed, I am pursuing other options for the rest of my prenatal care. Nathan and I will be meeting with one of the midwives at Around the Circle Midwifery in the hopes of switching to their practice for the rest of the pregnancy, and ultimately delivering Beanlet at their birth center, the Birth House, instead of at St. Pete's where Steven was born. I am anticipating good things - first off, the very fact that they still have room for me in August is a huge deal! My chances were quite slim on that front.
This decision has nothing to do with wanting to get away from the hospital, but everything to do with finding a care provider I feel I can trust, who will fully support my plans for a natural birth, and who will take the time to develop the trust needed to achieve that goal. Thankfully, this practice is covered by Group Health. Unfortunately, it is my only option outside of the Group Health midwives and so please pray with us that our meet & greet with the midwife next week goes well and we feel comfortable making the switch...or we may just be stuck. Either way, Beanlet will be entering our world sometime in the beginning of August, and that makes either option have a very, very exciting end!
A couple more updates on Beanlet...
This baby is extremely active. I don't remember Steven moving around quite this much at this point in the pregnancy. I am constantly being poked and kicked and goodness are the movements strong! I can even see most kicks if I am watching my belly, even without my hand to feel them!
So far I seem to be carrying similarly to how I carried Steven. Hmm...maybe a boy?
Beanlet's heart rate is consistently above 150 - which points to a girl in all the old wives tales...
Beanlet is a night owl. I feel the most movement when I am trying to sleep instead of during the day when I am awake. This leads to slight insomnia from about 2:30-4:30 in the morning for me, drifting in and out of sleep while Beanlet enjoys tumbling and kicking away.
So that is my update! I hope to be on again soon with pictures of Steven from recent days, even a video or two. He is growing so much it excites me and makes me sad all at the same time...by baby isn't a baby anymore!
