Steven's Most Special Night

Tonight after dinner we did the last night with our resurrection eggs (a great tool for explaining the story of the cross to young kids). We have been opening a couple eggs each night and since tonight was our last night we thought we would go back and review what each thing meant. Steven remembered what each item was and then how it fit into the story. I asked him if he knew why Jesus died on the cross and he said, "to take away our sins". I asked him if he knew what Easter was and he said, "it is when we celebrate Jesus is alive. He was died for three days and now He is alive and lives in heaven."

I was amazed at how much he understood. He went on, "Mommy, the soldiers that hurt Jesus, they won't be alive again, because their hearts were dirty and they will be died forever. They won't be in heaven with Jesus someday." I told him that that was true and that it was very sad. I asked him if he knew what could make a heart clean and he said, "Jesus!" I asked him if he wanted Jesus to clean his heart and he said, "yes!" with a huge smile. I told him all he needed to do was pray and ask Jesus to make his heart clean and asked if he wanted to pray. He said he did but he wanted me to help him. I led him in a pretty simple prayer, "Dear Jesus, I am sorry for all of the wrong things I have done. Thank you for dying on the cross to take away my sin. Please wash my heart and make it clean. Please come live with me and show me how to love you more each day and to live just like you. I love you, Jesus. Amen." He repeated every word with the most concentration I have ever seen out of this boy and at the same time with the sweetest smile on his face. Eye closed, hands in mine, and face glowing.

After we prayed I told him that his heart was clean and what a special night it was. That now he knew he would live with Jesus in heaven someday and that he could also tell others about his love for Jesus. He asked, "and I can tell them how He made my heart clean and tell them how he can make their heart clean?" Oh this little boy!!!

We called both sets of grandparents to tell them and he was just giddy about it.
We spent the rest of the evening talking about how much God loves him and how the angels in heaven are throwing a party because Jesus made his heart clean.

My heart is overflowing!
