Maybe BIG Baby??

Well, today Nathan and I went in for my 26 week appointment with the midwife. Here's how Sweet Pea & I measure up currently...

When the nurse came in to do blood pressure check and weight check she kept talking about how great I looked (they probably say this to everyone I imagine) and when she checked my weight she said that I was all skin & baby - I've gained 13 lbs so far this pregnancy which is right where they want me to be.

Carrie reviewed our ultrasound results with us and so far so good - Sweet Pea is looking great! There was an indication that I might be slightly farther along than they thought, as Sweet Pea was measuring about 9 days ahead, but they only change the due date if it is greater than 11-14 days apparently. Sticking with my current due date, she said that Sweet Pea is in the 86th percentile. It is very possible I will be delivering a big baby. When Carrie measured my tummy today she said it was at the high end of the normal range for where I'm at, but still good. Sweet Pea's heartbeat sounds amazing (as always, I get so excited everytime I get to hear it), and currently, Sweet Pea's head seems to be sitting just under the left side of my rib cage, though hopefully will start to turn to head down in the near future. Sweet Pea seems to be fond of somersaults so I could see this changing quite a bit before all is said and done.

This all just seems so funny to me, since so many people have said, "you don't look like you're 6 months along" and then here Carrie says I could be having a big old whopper of a baby. Well, I guess we will just have to wait and see. Nathan is a bit freaked out - he already thinks I'm huge (but in a good way I guess??). I freaked him out a bit more when I said that I'm expected to put on a 1/2 in. every week for the remainder of the pregnancy - which would be about 7 inches. He doesn't know what huge is yet!

My next appointment is two weeks from now when I will be taking a gestational diabetes test (basically drinking syrup water and then getting my blood drawn to see how my body reacts to the sugar). I'm not looking forward to it, but knowing I'll hear Sweet Pea's heartbeat again and seeing if we're going to continue to stay on the "big" scale is worth it. Also, by my next appointment I will have officially begun my 3rd trimester! Woohoo!!!!

Time is flying by!

In the next few weeks I hope to post some pictures of our nursery in progress. Still need to finalize paint colors, and clear out the room to begin work, but it should get done pretty quickly.

Until then...

  1. I can't wait to see pictures of your nursery! I still can't believe that you guys are having a baby- it makes me feel so old :) And don't worry about having a big baby- both of mine were HUGE (9.4 + 9lbs.) and everything ended up being okay. I don't know how Erik + I made such big babies though! And its funny because now my kids are tiny- Audrey is 32 pounds at 4 and Elliot is 25 lbs. at 2.

  2. Yay for good appointments! Funny, our little girl is measuring on the "small side of normal". But Keanan was pretty big. Maybe you're having a boy...
