Oh how the days fly by...
I just realized it has been a month since I blogged anything about my new life as a mom. Probably 'cause I'm too busy adjusting to my new life as a mom...it certainly keeps one busy! Well, Steven is sleeping, I'm eating my lunch (consisting of 2 corndogs...I know, extremely healthy), and going to attempt to recap the last month to the best of my ability.
We have spent our days mostly eating, sleeping (when he sleeps!) and enjoying watching our boy grow. When we are around the house, Steven and I spend a lot of time playing on the floor with toys or he will take naps in the Moby wrap while mom does some things around the house. He enjoyes his bouncy seat and thankfully will sit in it quite peacefully most mornings so mom and dad can get ready for the day. Just this week we got a swing from a friend and he loves it! I'm happy I have found something he will nap in when it is not convenient to have him napping on me. In the last few weeks Steven has had his first strolls around our neighborhood with mommy, a walk around Capitol Lake in downtown Olympia, a couple trips to the mall, "playdates" with friends (well, more for my sake), a few more trips up to Seattle to visit the grandparents, and today, his first trip to Costco.
Steven has begun to smile in response to us and even giggles on occasion. We enjoy watching him focus intently on one of our faces while we talk to him. He has discovered his fingers and stares at them with the greatest fascination as he moves them. He is interacting more and more when we dangle his little baby toys over his head, kicking wildly with excitement. Nathan has been working a lot with the legislature still in session (and headed for special session I'm afraid), but we know Steven knows his daddy's voice because he gets really excited when I put the phone up near his ear and Nathan talks to him. One of his happiest times is in the morning when we have all just woken up and we bring him on the bed with us. He is all smiles, giggles and coos and we can't help but smother him in kisses.
There have been a couple of tough things for me the last few weeks. One of them has been figuring out how to help Steven's endless stuffiness. At times I just felt so bad for his poor little nose. Thankfully, saline drops, a cool mist humidifier (an elephant one of course), and not sucking his nose so much have helped. Steven is still figuring out the days and nights routine...with most nights being when he wants to be awake much to mom's dismay. We are slowly working on keeping him awake more during the day and it seems to be working. Got some great sleep last night! He's also been a bit of a gassy baby...not sure why. But as soon as he has burped or tooted that gas out, he is all smiles again. We are getting very good at variations of burping and bicycle legs to deal with the gas.
Steven is growing by leaps and bounds. Today he is 7 weeks old. Hard to believe that much time has gone by already. He is 12 lbs 6 oz as of yesterday, which puts him in the 95th percentile for weight, and is currently in most of his 3 month size clothes...even busting out of some of them. For some perspective, at his one month check up a little over 2 weeks ago, he was 10 lbs. 11 oz - so he's gained almost 2 lbs since then. I've still been taking weekly pictures of Steven with Elliot the Elephant (so creative I know...it started with an E and went well with Elephant...) to track his growth in pictures and it is crazy to see how he changes from week to week. That reminds me, I have yet to take his picture with him today... I will try and post some pictures from the last few weeks sometime this weekend.
That is a very brief summary of the last month, and quite frankly all I can remember on my currently frazzled mommy brain. I will try and be more consistent in the coming days/weeks keeping track of the little goings on here as they happen.
