Cowboys, Cookies, & Candy

Yep - It's the night of Steven's 1st Halloween. He is snoozing away in bed after a very fun-filled day! The porch light is off and the last of our trick or treaters has been treated.  Nathan is home after a busy work day with the election being just 2 days away...can't wait for that to be over!!

Steven was a cowboy for his first Halloween. Did we take a lot of pictures? NO. (Stupid, stupid, stupid!!)Oh well, I'm getting together with some friends in the morning where we will have some more costume time and I will take pictures. One benefit of not having pictures- none of me in my Little Bo Peep costume. It was cute and all, but considering I hadn't worn the re-purposed costume (originally from a Shakespeare play I was in as "the country wench" - I know...thanks for the label Shakespeare) since I was 15 - it was a little tight. Anyways, pictures to come of the cowboy!

Amy came down today to greet the trick or treaters who would come to our doorstep. Thankfully we had a much better turn out than last year, and far less candy was indulged in by me (okay I ate some). We took a nice autumn walk with Steven to the park to push our little cowboy in the swing and give him his first real experience on the playground slides. He loved it! On our way back home we collected some beautifully colored fall leaves. I love, love, love this time of year!

I made the mistake (well, only sort of a mistake) of purchasing the pack of  3 giant cans of pumpkin at Costco recently (all this talk of a pumpkin shortage scared me!) and had no idea what to do with all this pumpkin! Well, I have a couple recipes I'm wanting to try - pumpkin scones, another batch of Andi's Great Pumpkin cookies, of course some pumpkin pie, and maybe something else. Amy and I wanted to bake something today however & a pie seemed too daunting with the trick or treaters constantly interrupting so we made these Pumpkin Spice cookies  frosted in the colors of fall - red, yellow, orange and green, and they turned out beautifully! Taste pretty darned good too!

Tomorrow brings the 1st of November and with it my first "30 Days of Thankfulness". We will see if I actually succeed in posting something everyday - it isn't a matter of being thankful, but of writing it down! I'm excited to bring to mind everything I have to be thankful for - while the list is endless it will be nice to be specific for a while.

Until tomorrow!
