Poor Baby!
Well, after a day of observing that Steven was unusually warm, we decided to take his temp. The good old fashioned way read 102.5 and we said, "off to the Dr!" Trying to find someplace that isn't going to totally break the bank on a Sunday afternoon is not that easy, but we finally found a clinic in West Oly that was open. Too bad they aren't preferred by our insurance - no matter - the co-pay was cheaper than the emergency room would have been...this is where it is helpful to be married to someone who works in health care policy research...sigh.
We tried to think of the thousands of things it could be on our way there of course - and all the other observations we had made today...he was fussier than usual, sleeping constantly, wanted to be held constantly, could it be this...could it be that?? Steven has an ear infection...I almost said first like it was some huge milestone...but I don't want him to get another one....ever! The Dr was all la de da about it and I didn't particularly like him when we left.
I hate seeing my boy so uncomfortable. It doesn't help that he's burning up and it is disgustingly hot in our house...not really compatible with lowering a temp. When we got home, we put him on his dosage of antibiotic and some tylenol for the fever and a cool washcloth on his head. Wasn't long before he drifted to sleep. Two and 1/2 hours later he's still out.
Now I feel bad for letting him cry it out the last two nights. Poor boy probably had a sore ear and that's why he didn't want to go back to sleep. But, what's a mommy to do?? I had no way of knowing that was what was the matter so I'm going to force myself to not guilt myself about it too much.
I will be perfectly fine bringing him in to bed with me tonight if it makes him feel better...we will save the sleep training for another day.
