30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 4
I did it. I went a whole week (and half a day) without a cell phone. It wasn't that difficult really, considering my phone wasn't anything to keep one entertained in a doctor's office waiting room or in a boring meeting. It served it's primary purpose - as a phone. I had just recently "mastered" the art of texting. (Although, since I couldn't do it without looking at the buttons, or while driving - I would have been one of those statistics dead on the side of the road they used to ban the cell phones - I'm not sure you could really say I mastered it afterall...). This all changed today though. Today I entered the world of grown-up phones. I now own a blackberry (err, crackberry??) - and a shiny purple one at that!
This phone is really pretty great. If I would keep it a bit shorter I can do my blog posts from it (I'm long winded...and type into the phone at the pace of a snail...can't blame the thing for giving up on me). But really...who would be able to survive without one of these things? I mean, you can talk, email, check your facebook, listen to music, watch tv... "Sorry, Steven, Mommy has to...." NO! I won't do it!! The newness will wear off eventually and I will go back to minding my son...
In case you couldn't already tell, I'm thankful for my new phone.
Now then, so that this post isn't entirely materialistic, I will express thanks for something else...
I am so very thankful for the special people, dead and living, who have made it their life vocation to write books for the pleasure of the reader. These creative minds have the power to take the reader to different times and places, walk in someone else's shoes, or live a dream they've been dreaming (for me the toss up would be to be a Jane Austen character or someone from the town of Avonlea). If the reader is like my husband, the writer would be someone examining history at length to see how its happenings effect our lives today, or what the latest political mind has to say on why this party or that party is better or worse than the other.
While I am thankful for so many books and the writers who have penned them, there is one that stands high above all the rest, penned by the greatest Author of them all - the Author of life. His Word is what brings hope to my dark days, joy in His promises just for me, purpose for my life, and all the "fix-it's" for my screw-ups. This Book won't be one that gets shelved after reading. It isn't one that will only interest me at one certain time in my life. This Book is perfect for me. And it is perfect for everyone - That's the wonder of it - and one of the many reasons I am oh so thankful for it.
