30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 13
We had a bit of drama this afternoon...
Steven and I had just gotten back from being out and about and were by ourselves at my parents' house. My mom had just pulled away to take my little brother to a friend's house. Steven was tired so I sat him on the couch next to me while I got out his nap things from my bag. He decided to reach for something on the coffee table and before I could react he had taken a head first dive onto the hardwood floor. I knew it was bad. Instant screaming from him and me. I frantically picked him up to try and sooth his crying and already could see a dark blue goose egg on the right side of his forehead. I grabbed my cell phone, not sure who to call first, I was screaming, he was screaming...I was shaking...I couldn't remember how to operate my phone...I got my mom on the phone (she had only made it to the street corner, that's how fast this happened). I think all she heard was, "Steven...Emergency room...fell!!" She raced back to the house, picturing Steven with his head split open and blood everywhere. She found me in the kitchen, panicking and trying to get ice out of a tray while bouncing a now much calmer baby (I had not noticed this...I was still in shock). She took him from me, stayed calm and over a period of about 2 minutes was able to get me rational enough to call my husband and figure out what we needed to do.
Long story made shorter, Steven is doing well, we avoided a trip to the ER and his goose egg is not nearly as bad looking as it was before.
I'm thankful for my mom - for knowing the right things to say to get me to calm down. I'm thankful for the nurse hot-line that gave me the info I needed to avoid the ER and monitor Steven at home instead. And I am thankful that Steven is feeling better and is so quick to forgive his mama for her stupidity.
I am also thankful for coffee with girlfriends, an excellent babysitter, and a wonderful roast dinner with Matthew and Taryn.
It has been an eventful day and I am ready for bed!
