30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 5
Promises. If I was to go so far to say I am thankful for all promises, I would be exaggerating. Man's promises have a way of being broken far to easily. A funny, but real example of this is what happened to me last Christmas. I opened this giant box from my brother, Kenny, and the box was empty. He said with great show, "This is my promise to help you paint your family room." He meant it with all sincerity, and maybe this is a bad example because he probably will help...eventually. (The weekend to paint had actually been put on the calendar - plans changed when I gave birth a week early). Kenny, if you're reading this I know you plan on helping us paint during that time you are taking off after the wedding...(honeymoon? what honeymoon??).
The joke that Christmas was that I received an empty box of promises or rather a box of empty promises.
That's just it - man's promises are empty - they aren't something you can fully rely on. Even people with the best of intentions break promises. I know I have. If you are someone who has been on the receiving end of a broken promise from me, I'm sorry.
Today, everyday, I am thankful for these promises, not from man, but from the One who knows my every thought, desire, need, fear, joy, regret, before I even know them:
"For I know the thoughts that I think towards you," says the Lord, "thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." ~ Jer. 29:11-13
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. ~ Phil. 4:19
As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. ~ Psalm 18:30-32
For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You. ~ Psalm 86:3
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ~ Phil. 4:13
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed in You, because he trusts in You. ~ Is. 26:3
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden is light. ~ Matt. 11:28-30
Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; ~ Phil. 1:6
The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. ~ Zeph. 3:17
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. ~ Phil. 4:7
And so many more...
