30 Days of Thankfulness - Day 14

It was sort of a lazy day today. I spent the better part of this
morning attempting to start on the huge pile if clean laundry that
needed folding. Unfortunately, simply staring it down doesn't make it
go away. I did find plenty to distract me though - like sorting my
Pinterest boards, deciding to bake cookies, cleaning other parts of
the house...just to not fold laundry. Well, I don't know if you'd say
I won or the laundry won, but all I know is it still needs to be
folded, but I have a plate full of cookies.

In the midst of all the distractions I had one really good one - a
nice log chat with my dear friend Amy in Kansas. I was blessed to be
able to visit her in early June with my tag along buddy, William. She
and I became friends when our oldest boys were just 6 months old.
Seems like ages ago. Like so many friends I have met here they were
brought to Washington via the military, which is why they are now in
Kansas.

She has been one of my constants in the trenches of young motherhood.
We had many a morning where we would meet at one of our houses with
kids all crazy just so we could have someone else to drink coffee with
(our fuel). She now has 3 more littles, the youngest of her 4 still
under 2 months old. We complain to each other quite a bit about our
woes, yet for some reason, we are very rarely complaining at the same
time. Whoever is doing the complaining is met with an encouraging word
by the other to turn our focus back on Christ and seek Him in all
areas of our life.

We have laughed, cried, rejoiced and mourned with each other. We've
watched each other deal with the adjustments that come when you add
kids to a family- adjustments to dreams, marriages, routines, habits -
some good, some very challenging.

I am so thankful for Amy. My heart will be so happy when I can sit
across one of our kitchen tables with a latte in hand and share our
hearts face to face. For now though, my heart is happy and thankful
that I can hear her voice and see her on the screen from time to time
to keep the friendship growing and deepening.
