30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 27

Since Creation Sunday was meant to be a day of rest. How rarely we actually rest on Sunday. In the hustle and bustle of life we barely have time to finish the things we feel we have to do, let alone rest and thus keep from accomplishing those things.

Today, I had some forced moments of rest. I say forced because if I hadn't been forced to slow down I probably wouldn't have.

Nathan went to the Seahawks game with my brother today and in order for that to happen, I had to bring him to meet up with my brother. My mother in law kept Steven home with her. When I returned Steven had gone down for a nap and Bradley was quickly heading that direction also. I was looking forward to getting some things packed up without interruption once both boys were asleep. Of course, as things usually happen, Bradley wasn't going to let that happen. He was sleeping in his bouncy seat, but would only stay asleep if my food kept that bounce going.

In this time of sitting still (except for my foot), I enjoyed the quiet house (my mother-in-law had left for church), watching my baby sleep, and thought about the many good things going on in my life. I truly have so much to be thankful for.

The story of Creation tells us how on the seventh day God rested. After six days of creating the universe and all we see around us, He rested, and He saw all that He had made and said it was good. When we take the time to rest (and not just sleep) we have the opportunity to observe the good things we have in our lives. So often we get busy, busy, busy with all these good things that we don't actually acknowledge them.

So, I am thankful for the few moments of rest I had today. Not only do I feel somewhat refreshed physically and mentally from them, but I have a new appreciation for all that I have and all God has given me.

Happy Sunday! I hope you find some moments to rest in the coming days.
