30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 19
Since the end of August, we've been gathering with some friends every
Tuesday evening for time in fellowship and prayer together and since
then our little gathering has grown from 2 families to 5. There are 10
kiddos under the age of six and 10 adults. We were not super close to
any of these families prior to our gathering here, although I've been
friends with one of the ladies since our oldest were babies. All but
one of these couples lives within walking distance or a short drive
from our house. This has made getting together just to spend time
together so easy!
A year ago if you'd asked Nathan or myself if we wanted to be in
community like this we would have probably laughed at the idea. We
could hardly find time for a family night let alone a night with a
bunch of other families. It just didn't seem practical or doable and
we didn't want to have to work for it.
This summer, when we were on our vacation together, we began to talk
about some of the things we were hoping for in the year to come. Both
of us spoke of a desire to be in community with other families, for
Nathan to have consistent accountability and encouragement from some
other men and I said brought up the same need from women.
If only we knew then that by now we would be in this already large
group of people, having meaningful conversation, and receiving
encouragement from some who were strangers before. It is like God hand
picked each couple and their children to be in our group. And we are
all hungry and eager not only the community this group provides us,
but the potential for more of His love and light to be seen by those
around us because of the community we are establishing.
I am so thankful for this wonderful group of men and women and their
little babies. I'm eager to see what else God will do in the short
time until the New Year.
