30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 25

It seemed like William was taking a long time to settle to sleep
tonight, which is so unlike him. He was just crying and crying so
pathetically that I finally went in to check on him. In my calmest,
most soothing voice I asked him in the dark, "what is wrong, sweetie?"
With his pacifier in his mouth he wimpered, "cold." I went over to his
crib, and although it wasn't really chilly I asked him if he was cold
and he replied, "cold" again. I turned on the lamp and turned around
to see that he had half unzipped his jammies and while his arms and
legs were still in his tummy was completely bare. I half laughed to
myself with amusement and pride at the way my boy is growing such a
spirit of independence and curiosity about everything but how that
same spirit gets him in frustrating predicaments. He had only learned
how to work a zipper the other day and has been having such fun with
it - now while he can get it undone easily, he has not mastered how to
get it zipped back up. Well, I fixed his problem, covered him with his
blanket, patted his back and prayed with him and he went right to
sleep after that.

Our little William. Affectionately called "Willy Hank", "Willy-bear",
"bubby". He will be two in January and I can hardly believe it. He has
definitely challenged me in so many ways in his short life. Things I
thought I had mastered in the skill of parenting with the the two fell
flat on their face when attempted with William. Sometime I think he
laughs at those attempts to reign him in based on the little gleam he
gets in his eyes when he knows he has done something naughty.

For all the mischief he likes to make, he is also my sweet book reader
and my little singer. He loves to snuggle and reads books and lately
has been repeating some of the books back to me. Many nights after we
put the boy to bed he will lie awake singing little melodies to
himself, happy as can be. This can go on for 30 minutes or more! He is
always eager to be in the center of the action and lately whenever I
am cooking in the kitchen he wants to be right there and I often find
the kitchen chairs making their way over to me on the floor to provide
good viewing.

William definitely spends the most of my energy of the the three boys
at this age, but he has a way of making every minute count, every
second worth it. I am so thankful for this strong, independent, loving
and eager to learn little boy. I love him to bits!
