30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 24
Last night my husband brought home my favorite donuts on the train
from his trip to Portland. We ate a majority of them for our dessert
last night but saved a few selections for this morning. Was I ever
glad to have them with my coffee!
I love food. I insist that I will never cut out a certain type of food
for a long period of time unless a doctor tells me it is killing me. I
just love food to much. I've started a couple diets and I even
attempted a sugar detox earlier this year (made it a week...it was
miserable). And for my pregnancies with both Bradley and William I had
to give up all things carblicious because of gestational diabetes.
Those 12 weeks (more like 16 with William) were torture!
My love for food extended deeper than the simple need we all have for
sustaining our bodies. I have come to love finding out about my food.
I've enjoyed learning which foods grow where and when they are in
season and the process for how they are grown. I am learning more and
more about experimenting with flavored and varieties and pairings.
I think the reason I could never choose to cut something out of my
diet without medical reason to do so is that the more I experiment
with food the more amazed I am at how much delicious food is out
there, and the more amazed I become at the one who created it all - as
sustenance for me! I am thankful that God didn't just make food for us
to eat as sustenance, but for us to enjoy and take pleasure in. And
how He must delight when we say "this is delicious!" about the apple,
or the honey, or the slice of beef or the winter vegetables we are
eating. And to think that that goodness doesn't compare to the
goodness that awaits us someday.
