30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 3
I was all ready to say how thankful I am for my husband today (which I am)...but the post that was supposed to be about him today got trumped...by his parents.
My in-laws seriously made my day today. Nathan had a full schedule of things going on today which meant we were left home alone. I got busy on some cleaning, laundry, and the boys were being very spoiled in getting to watch pretty much non-stop TV this morning (a rarity in our house). Mid-morning Anna sent me a text asking what we were up to. My response, "trying to maintain normal while Nathan was gone". Then she asked if they could come for a few hours to give me a break. Uh, OKAY!
They arrived a little after lunchtime. Bradley was down for his nap (fell asleep in his highchair today - so cute!), and Steven in his excitement to see Papa Johnson & Grandma Nanna refused to acknowledge his sleepiness (which was soon gone with a second wind when they arrived). I made them coffee (they were facing my toddler on no nap...it didn't seem right to not get them fueled up first) and then headed out to enjoy some time to myself. I spent a couple of hours meandering through some local gift shops downtown that I haven't been in since Steven was little. I was so happy! I even bought my first Christmas present (as well as a little something for me).
I know many a girl who has a hard time with their in-laws and it's completely understandable. There are many challenges to face when becoming part of a family that while maybe similar in many aspects, is completely different from your own. I'm blessed to have a wonderful relationship with my in-laws. Since the beginning I've been comfortable sharing my heart with them, I've enjoyed the many visits we have together, staying at their house, and now love seeing them as grandparents to my boys.
Getting spoiled by them today was icing on the cake. Thank,s Bryan & Anna for a wonderful afternoon! I am very thankful to have you in my life!
