30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 16

I am so thankful for my eldest son. He is teaching me daily the art of
learning grace. The more I see his mind and heart opening to
understand the world around him, the more I want to be a gentle force
in it. I thank God He is giving me more patience to respond to
Steven's questions with grace and give the time needed to understand
what he is inquiring about or observing going on around him. I don't
want to shut him down, but feed his desire to learn and explore and
wonder. Some days it is a real struggle. Some days it feels I don't
have time to pause with him. When I do, though, it is always worth it.

Steven is so caring. I often find him making a choice based on how it
will effect someone he loves, and he is always aiming to keep the
peace. He is definitely not my instigator, although he is starting to
find his own footing in defending himself and speaking his mind when
he thinks he has been wronged - that has taken a long time for hime to
develop. He loves to make people feel better who are down. He is
already at such a young age, eager to develop his own faith and loves
reading his Bible and talking about Jesus. The conversations he has
with Bradley about their faith regularly astound me. He is showing me
that childlike faith isn't scared to brag and proclaim belief, but
instead displays it as fact as much as his eyes are brown.

Steven is a lover of detailed things and a lover of order. He can
spend hours looking at Lego instructions to build some intricate
thing, but the things he creates on his own are even better. They make
this momma proud. He loves helping me keep the house neat and tidy, in
his own words, "I like when the house is clean and things are put
away." I'll be honing in on this part of his make up more in the
future!

He is reading more and more books on his own and loves to report what
words he has figured out on his own. So far schooling with him has
been a gloriously fun adventure with no regrets.

Each new day I am finding new things to love about this boy God gave
me. He is a joy and I am so glad I get to mother his heart for more
years to come!
