30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 14

I'm thankful for our dear friends Andrew and Katie. They were some of
our first close friends when we moved to the Olympia area and we've
watched their family grow from just two to five as one by one they
welcomed their 3 little girls (to match our three little boys). They
have been such an important part of our lives and our children's
lives.

We've enjoyed many game nights and last minute barbecues. We were part
of a small group together for a number of years and Katie and I served
as leaders in BSF together. Nathan and Andrew love discussing the
finer things in life - coffee, beer, politics - you know, exciting
things. Katie and I wait around for the guys to get busy talking and
the kids to play and then we sit with our tea and have heart to
hearts. I love those times.

They have supported and encouraged and uplifted us through both good
and hard seasons of our lives. They were among the first to hear that
we lost Shiloh as they were on their way to our house for dinner
before we got the news. I thought for sure they would want to cancel
with how upset I was, and I even told them they didn't have to come,
but they swooped in, sent Nathan and I upstairs to mourn together and
fed our kids and put them to bed for us. Those are some real friends!

They have laughed with us, cried with us, experienced the ups and
downs to parenting in the crazy years of infancy and toddlers and now
the beginnings of school. We've talked nursing, baby poo, kid puke
(they even had a recent episode from one of my kids that I think will
live in infamy with all of us), and oh the best parental joy,
discipline. We may be a year ahead of them in this parenting thing,
but we have definitely learned from them, too.

Our lives don't intersect as much these days. We are at different
churches and involved in different things. I love the times we do make
time for our families to be together though. It is always an exciting
time!
