30 Days of Thankfulness ~ Day 20
I love books. When Nathan and I visited Portland for the first time
together this summer, we spent a ton of time at Powell's bookstore. I
was in book heaven. While I enjoyed browsing the cookbooks and
biographies and popular fiction and classic literature, my heart
skipped a beat when I made it to their children's book section. I
couldn't wait to look through every shelf for the treasures I might
find. And treasures there were. I wish I could have bought the huge
stack I carried around with me for an hour, but lack of luggage space
(we'd taken the train) limited me to a few special books. I included
some of the classic literature I'd read growing up as a girl - books
by Louisa M Alcott and L.M. Montgomery and some favorites to take
home for the boys.
I'm loving the age my boys are at with books right now. We've been
getting some pretty wordy picture books from the library lately and
even Bradley will sit through a few books at a time. It won't be long
before I'll enjoy reading from some short chapter books and really
taking their imaginations on adventures.
Oh, I love books! So thankful for the gift of reading and traveling
the world in a book!

We LOVED Powell's when we went! I took about 20 minutes in the older, collectible books room there and walked around staring in awe at the history in front of me. I really love and even admire old books. All that time that they've lived through! There was so much to look at and revel in there! I love being related to someone who feels the same excitement I do about the written word. :-D
